Danish University Wind Energy Training

Composite Structures

 NEXT COURSE:
SEPTEMBER 15-16 2010

Prerequisites

The course presupposes a basic knowledge of solid-sate mechanics  -the level of which shoul equal that of a bachelor og engineering in mechanical engineering.

Objectives of the course

The course objective is to provide the participants with a basic knowlegde of general principles and theories within the area of structures made of polymer based composites. Is is important that the participants learn to appreciate the basic elements within the classic analysis methods for describing the structural behaviour of composites (laminates). Furthermore, the objective is to enable the participants to analuse connections between the structural behaviour of composites and external influences by means of the classic analsis methods.

Course description

The course presents the classic methods which are applied when analysning composites. Elements, which are directed at producing and analysing composites, are emphasised in the instruction.

The following subjects are covered by the course:

  • Composite-relevant concepts
  • Typically applied composites and their constituents

  • Macromechanics

  • Micromechanics

  • Classical laminate theory

  • First order shear theory

  • Introduction to design and optimisation of composites

The subjects above are partly taught by means of small assignments which are solved in connection with the course.
